A brief explanation of what Green Is Gold (I think that's what the poems called) By Robert Frost means to me. I'm not certain if that is the title, but it was written by Robert Frost. On the surface a lot of people would say that this poem is just another nature poem. That it is simply about the spring and stuff like that. I am not most people. I adore the symbolism in this peace. To me its about youth and innocence's. About how short youth is and how very fragile innocence's is. Natures first green is gold The first green is a reference to innocence's. A very clear and classical reference. Green is gold because it is very precious. A thing to be values and protected. Her hardest hue to hold This is because innocence's is so easily destroyed. The wrong word or the wrong action at the wrong time and poof its gone. Her first leaf is a flower Another example of classic symbolism. This is the flower of youth. The leaf is the individual. We all start out as flowers (young) and then grow into leafs (individuals) But only so an hour Youth is fleeting. We grow up very fast Then leaf subsides to leaf Youth progresses to adult hood So Eden sank to grief The banishment from Eden is really symbolic of how hard it is to balance innocence's with knowledge. Particularly knowledge of the existence of evil. Innocence's is really just being ignorant about evil and the general nastiness that exists in the world around us. Dawn subsides to day Agen the progression from youth to adult hood Nothing gold can stay There is far too much bad in the world for anyone to remain innocent for long.
