Sea Lullaby I don't remember who wrote this one, but I like the flow, the phrasing and the imagery. It is one of the things I've memorized. Granted, memorized is not the same thing as scrutinizing. I must confess I've never really gave this one much thought as to what the poem might mean beyond the surface subject of a drowning. Though the image of drowning can be symbolic of feeling of being overwhelmed. Sea Lullaby The old moon is tarnished with the smoke of the flood the dead leaves are varnished with color like blood A treacherous smiler with teeth white as milk a savage beguiler in sheathings od silk The sea creeps to pillage she leaps on her prey a child of the village was murdered today She came out to meet him in smooth golden cloak she choked him and beat him to death for a joke Now in silence she lingers beside him all night to wash her long fingers in silvery light
